With the new addition of a grounded basketball hoop and renovated backyard, the brothers of Florida Alpha have begun spending most of their free time playing pickup games at the house. What started as a few games each night after dinner has turned into so much more including a house tournament and now a three versus three league, headed by brother Ty Van Duyn, with games scheduled throughout the week. Almost every game has had an incredible turnout as brothers cheer on the teams and their fellow brothers. A few weeks into the semester, the Spring ‘21 Class began their Sigma project, painting the lines for the new court, including the SigEp flag inside the key. This new addition to the house has not only become a perfect bonding opportunity for brothers but also a symbol of Florida Alpha.
“I honestly didn’t expect the league to be as popular as it is now. I just wanted to do something fun that any brother could be a part of. I was surprised to see that people actually took time out of their day to watch the games, and in some instances there will be over 20 brothers watching a game in the backyard. Having the hoop is great because I’ll see guys out there everyday of the week, including guys who probably wouldn’t have been as involved if they had to drive to Southwest Rec to play,” Ty Van Duyn said.
