During the Fall 2022 semester, the brothers of Florida Alpha found great success during intramural sports competition. Our brothers competed in football, softball, and soccer matches, and were extremely competitive throughout the season in every sport. Our flag football team advanced all the way to the division championship, ultimately falling to Kappa Phi Epsilon. In the semifinals against Chi Phi, the team dug deep and gutted out a victory to make it to the championship game. Led by Brothers Connor Glass ‘23, Christopher Hueber ‘23, and Michael Laventure ‘23, the team went 2-2 during the regular season but went on a run during the playoffs. Although the team came up short, the brothers competed through every whistle and highlighted Florida Alpha’s importance of Sound Body. Next, Florida Alpha’s softball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the intramural men’s softball league. Despite a 1-1 regular season, the team won three playoff games to finish with a record of 4-2 overall. In the team’s first playoff game, the squad battled in a back-and-forth game and ultimately came out on top 15-11 to advance to the second round. In the next two playoff games, the brothers’ bats came alive once again, helping the team advance to the quarterfinals. Brothers Grant Mondejar ‘24, Justin Jackson ‘26, and Andy Arca ‘24 led the offense while Josh Batteese ‘25 played solid defense throughout the year to keep runs off the scoreboard. The team is excited to compete throughout the spring season in the Intramural Fraternity League. Finally, our intramural men’s soccer team had a successful season, as well. Even though some of the brothers didn’t have the most soccer-playing experience, the group banded together and had tons of fun on the field. Brother Luke Thompson ‘25, Timmy Hodges ‘24, and JP Krause ‘22 were key players in the team’s success during the season. After a 3-1 regular season record, the team came up short in a very competitive playoff bracket, making it to the second round. The brothers of Florida Alpha are excited to continue intramural sports in the Spring season and are eager to play again in the Fall of 2023.
